Congratulations on the article Vanessa. Despite its relative impotence in the overall scheme of things I freely acknowledge the propensity of the "Hounslow Independent Alliance" (which on LBH is now an "alliance" of one, having driven away two-thirds of its own membership) to be an occasional nuisance, much like an ageing, embittered three-legged dog with an attitude problem if one inadvertently stands too close to it. I find it interesting that you consider a patch of broken hard-standing under a motorway flyover with weeds growing from it to be "parkland", yet as a councillor were happy to build on a real patch of green amenity space belonging to your own constituents without a second thought, verbally abusing them when, having found out what you were up almost by accident, they then had the audacity to object to your plans for their neighbourhood. In stark contrast, we have been keen to involve the excellent Friends of Boston Manor group of residents in the consultation process at every step along the way. For example we recently invited them to make a presentation at Area Committee, having acquired background documents for them at their request from officers at the council. Full consultation with FOBM remains our policy locally, in accordance with our unrelenting drive to radically improve community engagement within the borough. A drive which, incidentally, has been opposed by the Labour Group all the way, from the Hounslow Homes Management Review to the £4m Tenant Empowerment Project. I enjoy Private Eye and "Rotten Boroughs" in particular, but this really is a classic application of the maxim "sh*t in, sh*t out" is it not? |
