Phil, can't you respond to a straightforward posting without attacking a third party (me) and lying in the process? For the record, when the Independent Alliance decided to contest the Hanworth Park by-election my 2 colleagues based in the West of the borough decided to resign. No one forced them out. They felt that, as Chair and Vice-Chair of their area committee with Conservative backing they could not support us putting up a candidate against the Tories. As far as I am concerned that was a decision that they were free to make and there was no pressure either on them to change their minds or on me to share their position. On the issue raised in Private Eye, I find it stupendous that someone who claims to be upset at the decision of the Sustainable Development Committee to support the officer recommendations on the Mogden planning application should be so keen to see the Council's parking standards on commercial development undermined in exchange for a bung from Glaxo Smith Kline towards Boston Manor Park. Assuming your logic is consistent I expect that if Thames Water had offered a nice wedge to be spent in Isleworth that would have made their planning application OK? Incidentally, I hear the financial benefits of supporting the Tories have enabled some councillors at least to pay for private education for their kids, enabling them to avoid the cuts inflicted upon the Council's schools. |
