Adam, it seems to me that the entire planning arrangements need to reformed and completely re-written, as they stand they are just not fit for purpose. What on earth is the point of building towering blocks of offices or flats if no one can get to them by public transport? It's just plain madness. OK so you get the developer to cough up moneys earmarked for this but what's the use of that if there physically is NO ROOM to expand the transport services? The eastern end of Brentford from Kew Bridge up to Chiswick roundabout junction with A4, north and south circulars cannot be expanded. You cannot widen Kew Bridge so a new bridge would have to be built and then what happens in Kew itself with those narrow roads??? Gunnersbury Station is already blocked solid. Kew Bridge Station despite longer trains and platform is still a mere loop line between Hounslow and Waterloo. Have they installed a lift there yet? Once on the platform you need legs like a gazelle or giraffe to leap across the huge gap onto the train. I have two friends who simply cannot journey from that station at all, one 85 yr old and the other a tiny 5ft tall middle aged person. Buses coming from Brentford sit in traffic jams all along to Kew and to Chiswick. Once the new Brentford Stadium development is opened and its tower block flats in place it can only get worse. No,the whole planning system has to be viewed not as individual sites but as an entire area, to ensure that people supposed to be occupying these new builds have access to doctors, schools etc by good, frequent public transport of trains and a proper road system too able to accommodate buses, coaches, cars, delivery vans/lorries, bicycles, invalid carriages and emergency vehicles. At the moment none of that appears to be possible! Some thing is wrong somewhere. |
