There is an insane assumption, mainly formed by office based pen pushers that everyone works in an office and presses buttons on a keyboard. There has never been a single survey conducted by a local authority or transport authority on what individuals do when they use cars for work. Ie What they carry. The assumption is vans are used by artisans and cars are used by office workers. In the real world, many many people both employed and self employed use a car as an all purpose vehicle rather than have to own a van and a car. A great many items tools and specialist pieces of work equipment, heavy items and volatile items are actually not permitted on TfL and National rail services and in many cases have been for many decades. TfL have increased that list and many people travel in breach of TfLs terms and conditions of carriage. If an accident or calamity occurred and you were as a ticket holder found to be in breach of these terms, you would be deemed ineligible for any form of compensation should injury occur but would also be liable for any injury or damage caused. Not that this is ever highlighted. But it is all there in the rather thick book found in every London Underground station managers office and every Bus operator depot. So this is yet another office worker based assumption that is more likely to increase the stream of businesses looking to leave the south east to a torrent. |
