Phil, The last minute resignation of the Brentford Councillors from the Committee was unprecedented and highly irregular but not illegal. It is a great pity that the Brentford Councillors stood down thus depriving Brentford residents representation by their own Councillors on the Committee. I was actually at the meeting and am not dependent on the webcast or second reports of the meeting. The proponents of the scheme put up a smooth case for their deeply flawed scheme. The objectors from the local residents groups made a number of very good points which the proponents failed to answer. The Labour Councillors failed to demonstrate that they had considered the matter thoroughly and that they had a detailed knowledge of the Kew Bridge/ Chiswick area. They gave the impression that they wished to support the application in order to support Brentford FC politically rather than on sound planning grounds. All of the Conservative Councillors raised good questions. The Chiswick Councillors and Councillors Brad Fisher and Sheila O'Reilly demonstrated a clear understanding of the planning issues and the effect of this scheme on local residents. Were you at the meeting yourself Phil ? , |
