I was handed a leaflet at Gunnersbury tube station on Friday which urges ratepayers to object to the proposed development of the Lionel Road site between Kew Bridge and Chiswick Roundabout, the new site for Brentford Football Club. What the developers are proposing is visually horrific, a monster that will be seen for miles. According to the leaflet, the proposal is for a new 20,000 seat football and rugby stadium also used for rock concerts; twelve tower blocks, 16 storeys high; almost 1,000 new flats; the density of these flats three times higher than London planning guidelines; a 160-room hotel; no new roads, transport links, schools, medical facilities and minimal parking provisions. The leaflet says the development will lead to gridlock on Chiswick High Road, Kew Bridge and Brentford High Street. It urges residents to protest to Hounslow Council (planning@hounslow.gov.uk, quoting reference, 00703/A/P11 and marking it, FAO Shane Barker, giving full name and address) and also to your local councillor. This is URGENT: the leaflet claims the consultation process ends on 28th October (Monday). |
