It's going to affect a lot of less well off and elderly in particular and nothing is in place to provide the extra demand that will be needed in care and support. It also affect Carers. What local councils have failed to do ( I understand it 'grates with policy') is to inform Elderly and Blue Badge holders over 75 that a grace period is available for non compliant vehicles where it is unaffordable or impractical for a replacement so near to stopping driving and to maintain independence. What TfL do not say anywhere is that in the past 5 weeks they have changed the criteria twice and is now discretionary. More like Discriminatory. No-one at LBE or LBH even knew of it but it is buried on the TfL website. A great deal of elderly who have already scrapped their cars and got into finance arrangements for replacements or indeed sacrificed their independence are going to be rather upset when they find out they have been as ever, passed over. |
