Thank you Jeremy. There is no policy in LCC to stop people using cars, though like me LCC would like people to be more thoughtful and avoid driving when appropriate. I don't respond to Simon Hayes because he consistently makes stuff up and is professionally abusive. I respond (I try to do so politely) to people who make points that set out their views in a constructive manner. My fundamental opinion about cars in London is that for people who use them as little as I do, keeping one is not rational (and I like cars, so can't be rational!). Of the 7 councillors who serve Brentford I believe only 3 possess a car, and my daughter gave hers up a couple of years ago. My reservations are as much about cars' detrimental impact on the street scene, their very high cost to owners who use them little and the increasing challenge of storing them, of course also their contribution to pollution and global warming. |
