| I don't think opposition is unhinged. I do think the criticism of floating bus stops is often fanatical. I accept there are some valid concerns with them, particularly for people who are visually impaired. I support the proposals I've seen to make them safer, such as changing the surface so there is a aural warning (to remind cyclists). So I've read the criticism for cyclists not stopping but I have not (yet) heard of any actual accidents. The fanatical opposition actually fuels the major issue, which is actually fear. There will be a number of floating bus stops proposed (details here from TfL consultation Early 2022) https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/hounslow-brentford-walking-and-cycling-changes By the way, in virtually every respect of the new schemes on Bus times, they move better than before the changes. Tfl have a transponder on each bus so they can model the impact on times. This contrasts to the social media estimates. |
