| I don't believe that they even worry about the ballot box anymore as, save for local fora like this, there is virtually no local reporting. I rue the day that The Informer, Hounslow Chronicle, Brentford and Chiswick Times and Ealing Gazette either ceased publication or moved to online only editions with little, if any, local content. The days when good local reporters were virtually embedded in local authorities (Polly Manser on the Ealing Gazette was a fine example of local investigative journalism) are gone, at least in London. There is now no-one to hold local 'virtual fiefdoms' to account I am afraid. Despite their very obvious failings, fora such as this do at least raise local issues and bring shortcomings to an (admittedly small) readership. |
