Thank you for your measured response Vanessa. I agree with much of your post. However, I was the one accused of "Twaddle", and I should have thought better than to rise to the bait. So please forgive me if I have been offensive in any way. You are quite right, government services and their employees are more remote due to technology, but that is not unique to them. I disagree that local forums fill the gap previously filled by decent local newspapers. They at least had journalists or budding reporters who cut their teeth on them, and presumably researched stories before their editors allowed them print. Forums do not serve that - they allow the ubiquitous citizen journalist, or anyone else with uneducated, uninformed, biased barfly bravado to wax lyrical and ferment discontent. Indeed there are people with informed content, but generally a forum, such as this, eventually just becomes a receptacle of the disenchanted and despairing. If this is the only way to hold our elected leaders to account, then they have nothing to worry about - except the ballot box. |
