I apologise Bernard, I should have used better wording....I did not think you were talking about your own situation. Also I have discovered that the 'cap' only applied to a limited number of homes and only if the council had successfully applied for government funding. See http://www.anthonygold.co.uk/latest/blog/florries-law-council-major-works-charges/ for info. I am not at all surprised at the size of the bills you linked to. Scaffolding one of the Brentford towers will cost a fortune. When I said I was not concerned it was on the basis of 'buyer beware'and that right to buy purchasers recd huge discounts. I have not checked the values of the tower flats but I am sure they are a lot less than say a two bed conversion in a two storey house in the area. Current guide £450-500k, or £350-400k for a one bed (can be a lot more for new builds close to water. What did your friends pay? All crazy of course but that is London housing and this will not change no matter how many new homes are built. I don't wish to sound too unsympathetic towards your friends but if the costs are real (often challengeable as Vanessa suggests)if they are not recovered they rest with the council. Unfair for the rest of us...... |
