Iain, I don't own or about to buy a flat in the Brentford Towers. But I have friends that have, and I am concerned what the final bill will be for the share of the major works that will be carried out. All I can say about some of your post is, the flats are commanding normal prices for this part of London, nothing cheap in West London. Now I going to ask you to research a similar major works carried out in Sutton and in Oxford, these are well documented on the internet and you will get some of the scale of charges paid by lease holders in those estates . I cannot see how a council can cap what is owed by a leaseholder, if the price of the works is divided into the number of flats in the block, that's the price you pay as you say the council will be out of pocket. Through out London boroughs, amounts such as £28000 to £30000 per lease holder have been charged on major works on council estates. I do believe if the charge is over £10000 then the leaseholder is given time to pay which was 5 years the last time I looked it up. But once to start to research this type of major works you will soon find some real horror stories attached to them. |
