The bottom line is - What are we running, with Public money? My experience from the pavement fiasco was that I knew internal people were laughing at me (openly, on the phone, as well) and mocking Councillors and their position. It simply seemed that they had no intention of doing anything other than what they wanted to. A great deal of time effort and goodwill was put in with tours and time and suggestions for huge costs being saved or recouped – and none of it has ever appeared to be followed through. Goodwill is an essential part of our community life and not to be underrated or mocked. Phil, you are right to say ‘the excellent Liberal Democrat member Andrew Dakers’ as he spent considerable time in meetings with internals following his tour. Anyone with any common sense could and did make simple suggestions which would save hurt injury and money yet it seemed that there was neither will within nor the right person within, to make it work. To this day I do not understand how a political set up such as a Council authority could make such a dogs dinner of managing Community money for this issue. Politics was seemingly getting in the way of getting the job done but only because the people doing the job were being allowed to let this happen. Mal administration? fraud? or we have to just accept this is the way it is, certainly there is no accountability. |
