Tim, I've since noticed (and read) Kath Richardson's account of the meeting and am glad to see that some of the audience were not willing to be told by the Lib Dems and ICG that they mustn't discuss councillors' allowances. Kath's account of the proceedings seems comprehensive but I would correct her on one thing: it's not true that the Tory leader of Hounslow Council only receives £34k. This is merely the 'Extra Responsibility' part of his pay (which, by the way, he voted to more than double at the same time as forcing through a programme of cuts to public services). His total claim for last year was £44,775. |
