No basis for saying this other than a hunch, but I suspect Wednesday will be the most well-attended meeting (at St. Paul's Church). Got the leaflet in the post today, headlining a leaflet "Do you want to put your MP in the stocks ?" doesn't exactly set the scene for a general 'neutral' debate about democracy and accountability does it ?!. The only people such a craftily headed leaflet will appeal to is the anti-Keen brigade. I can appreciate that it's hard to make a meeting about democracy / accountability / sustainable communities sound in any way 'sexy' or appealing, but such an unfortunately worded leaflet still stinks of a political stunt, even though as Phil quite correctly points out, the actual people chairing and sitting at the meetings come from a broad spectrum of organisations and groups. I live in a large development and wasn't at all surprised to see that many people had dumped the leaflet on the floor/on top of our boxes, because the average 'bloke in the street' reads that headline and thinks "political mumbo-jumbo" and bins it. |
