Steve, I notice you ducked my question as to why your preferred candidate (Andrew Dakers) voted both ways on the Mogden expansion issue. I also notice that you have no argument to put up as to why locals should trust your second preferred candidate (merchant banker Mary Mac£eod) when her party has received at least one large financial donation from Thames Water. Don't get me wrong, I work in the private sector (and I believe in a strong market economy) but the privatisation of the public utilities in general (and water in particular) has to rank as one of the biggest scandals of our time. The fact that the water companies then chose to make financial donations to the very party that privatised them only compounds that scandal. In fact, the whole thing stinks almost as much as Modgen itself. Private companies, unless properly regulated, will cut corners so as to maximise profits. That's why life is such a misery for people within the vicinity of Mogden right now. You can attempt to fool residents into believing that it's all Labour's fault. Alas, too many people know where the real blame lies. |
