The Times newspaper reports of Kew Gardens' 250th anniversary thi year.... and the visit TODAY of HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. It's a good read. There are suggestions that pots of lolly...millions?.. are to be spent upgrading the Riverside entrances.. with landing stages and pontoons to cope with the arrival of passengers by River. There are even plans to link Brentford (Syon House Park) to Kew Gardens by a new footbridge. Of course, there were references to the historic "industrialised" sights of Brentford across the water!! Good news is that the Kew Gardens authorities are now broadcasting their opposition to Heathrow Noise and any future expansion. In the past KG have kept bit quiet about Heathrow..as their staff at many levels were benefiting from free or bargain priced air travel around the world ..whilst undertaking their research. So now Kew Gardens are on the "NO" side! There's lots to say on this topic. Sir Joseph Banks and all that! # |
