Yes your examples are good! No 79 High St is a perfect example of a sympathetic build. The sheer black featureless gloss frontage however could be a bit much. Buildings like that can look amazing but can so easily go wrong (and end up looking cheap). If you are a city bank with the budget for a Norman Foster then great!! I’m sure a flowing glass structure next to the river could be amazing and also sit happily next to 200/300 yrs old buildings but in reality …… safest to steer clear I would think. There are many towns that have planning regulations to preserve the look of an area... the problem would be the cost to shop owners. Once done however the area would look so much better and you would think that it would have the knock on of increased flow of business to the area which must be key to a sustainable regeneration plan. |
