Not a lot of people know (though I have been telling them for years!)that textiles and shoes (etc) an be collected with your 'normal' recycling. Just seal them in a plastic bag (wet textiles are unusable) and put them with your recycling. Important you label them so the collectors know what it is.

The charity (or sometimes commercial) textile collections are often problematic as they are not emptied as frequently as is needed.
