Pay should be linked to the CPI as this ensures lower costs. Productivity will remain low for some time because of Brexit. Companies do not want to invest in new equipment in this uncertain period. If productivity increaed leave and public holidays would have to rise and the working week would have to be decreased. Look across the channel many more public holidays than us shorter working week longer holidays lunch provided etc. We take five days to produce what the French take four days to produce. On the television here I saw an agreement a French Department store had introduced for Sunday working. You can work 12 Sundays a year only and that is voluntary. You receive double pay with a lieu day. Also if applicable you receive 70€ towards child care. Can you imagine the Conservatives introducing this. Many many people here are not taking their statuatory annual leave and some employers are unaware there is such a thing. The fact is the British work too hard to be productive. |
