My husband also a long standing council officer, would take issue when he thought he was being told to do something that he thought was just plain wrong and especially if in his opinion it was against policy, so he used to ask that 'orders' of this sort were backed up in writing, which of course he kept. His 'manager' at his final authority didn't even know the law or legislation half the time so that made for a somewhat uncomfortable relationship. Again, like your experience it was someone more interested in brown-nosing with the Leader than being honest and explaining the situation as it was. He too was rewarded with promotion- sometimes people just don't like to hear the truth. |
