Report in today's 'Observer' that there are 26,000 planning permissions that have been given to London councils for luxury flats most more than £1m each. Only 6,423 'affordable' homes were built in London during the 2016-17 financial year a 5% decline on the previous year. So there is a 'existing glut' of these luxury home leading to 'posh ghost towers' - meaning most are half empty. Coutts the posh people's bank is "advising clients to 'be cautious' about buying luxury homes with fear the market was hugely oversupplied and prices could crash". Well, I for one won't be weeping salty tears if that happens. Hounslow is no better than all the others - throwing their lot in with private developers, councils should be buildng council homes, very soon - if it hasn't already happened, housing in Brentford will be beyond the reach of local people. |
