Seems to me that the very first consideration when planning for an entire new town (which is in effect what they are doing in Brentford) is to fix the site for the local supermarket with adequate disabled parking and parking for the elderly, carers and mums with buggies. Then establish the local GP surgery(ies), ensuring sufficient access at the local hospital(s), followed by at least one local primary school and one mainstream school - THEN you can start to plan where the people are going to live and what type of housing they may need. So far as Brentford is concerned, it's all been about raising the highest price possible for a free for all land-grab and the building of high-end flats for wealthy investors - no thought for the needs and requirements of the local population whatsoever. |
