One of my favourite pictures amongst this wonderful collection is the cricket one. I'd often seen old road maps of the Ealing Road/Great West West Road junction showing a cricket ground on that corner but I have never seen information about it...let alone a picture! There's Brook Road North in the background with the York Mineral Water factory (bottles on display at Gunnersbury Museum). ""All Things Brentford" adds these helpful notes: "The only known photograph of the Boston Park Cricket ground, which was situated west of EaIing Road between York Road and what is now the Great West Road. The photo dates from 1932 and features footballers from Brentford and Arsenal competing in a charity fixture. The Bees had actually shared the ground with the cricket club for four years to play their Southern League matches from 1900 prior to Moving in to Griffin Park. The picture is looking from the east towards York Road with the York Mineral Water company building in view. The site was developed for industrial use soon after this photo and the sporting facility lost to the town." |
