Could it be that with the gates a lot of people are put off walking into the area, thinking that it must be private property? Also (haven't had reason to look myself), if Chapel Lane is a public footpath, is there a sign saying so? Otherwise, how is one to know? While on the subject of signs, have the 'private' signs always been up in places in Brentford Dock?
