In defense of gates. The gates on such developments are to keep out unwanted cars and the side gates for pedestrians are often not locked. So you can simply walk through and still go anywhere you like. The traffic control is needed to avoid non-residents or visitors using private parking spaces. As is noted on another thread, the new developments have many more flats than parking spaces - so the temptation to use spaces that others pay for & maintain is already high and is increasing. So such gates are simply a result of the way we live today. |
