Conal Stewart’s opening piece is remarkable. To my mind, barracking has always been intimately linked to the hustings. The very immoderate language he uses to describe the people who objected to our MP’s absence undermines his call for polite moderation from the audience. I agree that it was men as well as women who protested. I am certain that supporters from all the larger parties felt equally aggrieved. ‘Crazed’, ‘nasty’, ‘vicious’ & ‘twisted’ are unfortunate adjectives to use if one wishes to demand seemly behaviour from others. |
