As one of the'twisted old women' who sat next to Conal (I know it was him as we have checked the transcript and remember the question he asked) I am stunned by the difference between his plea for 'polite disagreement' and the distateful insults he is bandying about on this forum. He seems to have an overly dramatic interpretation of events at the hustings. Many people there were, not unnaturally annoyed, at the non appearance of our hithertoo elected representative and exercised our democratic right to have that feeling noted - there was no other way for us to this within the format of the meeting. Had someone been able to make this point to the chair in a more refined manner this may have assuaged the feeling throughout the hall. We also heckled when the Labour agent gave us his view on a question when he had already stated that he did not know AK's stance on it - we were not there to listen to his views and I consider that to put forward his view was an impertinence. There was no coarseness or swearing it was just put over to Ann Keen's agent that his appearance as a sub was not acceptable to a good number of people attending. I really resent the implication that the interventions foul mouthed in anyway. It is worth noting that whilst I am a 'supporter of Mary' all my fellow members of Book Club with whom I attended are most vehemently not ( a sitation that leads to many 'lively' discussions at our meetings - again no swearing occurs!) However my critique on Ms Keen's attendance is as valid as anyone elses as, until May 6th, like it or not, she is my MP. We have been accused of lacking grace - please tell me how graceful it is to hurl about this level abuse? It is not less offensive because is typed and the abuser is hiding behind his screen. It is telling that most of the abuse is coming from supporters of AK - Stalinism is alive and well in the grassroots(or should that be underbelly!) of the Labour Party. RIP New Labour. There's one way - your way and any head above the parapet has to be taken off! Whilst I don't want to age patronise Conal - just this once I will - for goodness sake GROW UP and stop throwing your toys out of your pram and don't use unpleasant personal abuse as a debating tool. You have just made yourself look riduculous and no I don't feel ashamed at all. |
