I'm pleased that there is a response to the article on the TW8 web site where someone is asking for donations to fund an appeal - effectively to block the planning permission for residential moorings at the entrance to the canal. The response rightly questions the validity of commercial use of the canal. First, for what purpose would there be commerical traffic - moving goods from where to where? Second, why should residents along the canal - in houses or in house-boats - put up with unsightly, noisy (and if used for garbage movement) smelly commercial haulage boats? Would it not be better for all viable stretches of the canal to have residential moorings - bringing people and a bit of buzz to the canal and its surroundings? Luckily the 'save the working boat' brigade are dreaming here... |
