Eric. This may help. We have a shared sewer - the drainage falls from our house and an access cover into the driveway of the house next doors The houses were built in the 1930’s. Tucked away on the Thames Water web site is a section saying that TW are responsible for the sewers on houses such as ours - if you can find it there are neat drawings explaining about shared sewers. After a few blockages TW put a camera down the sewer and found the sewer very clean and there was a broken pipe where the pipe joins the main sewer. After this we had contractors appear ( without discussion or warning) who installed a computer ( their words) inside our drain cover which registers an alarm at their end should the sewage starts to back up. I suppose the alarm is triggered if the sewage covers the sensors and gives them time to plan a visit before it becomes a health hazard. |
