While on Thames Water, can anybody tell me whether they can insist that a person has an internal stop-cock fitted. While it may be wise to have one, I don't. I've lived in my house for nearly 40 years with plenty of plumbing work done over that time and would know whether or not I do! The house is Victorian with a shared inlet with next door and the 'stop' is on the pavement. This, I believe, is not uncommon in terraced properties of this age. I have reasons for asking this but it's all a bit complicated. I have found the Water Regulations for England and Wales and it says that no regulations can be insisted on retrospectively (although not sure that having an indoor stopcock is, in fact, a regulation even now) as long as the system was installed correctly in the first place. I'd be grateful should anybody have the answer. Thank you. |
