Thank you for your reply. My query is connected with having a water meter. I don't mind if a water meter can be fitted on the joint inlet outside on the pavement but when the engineer came he insisted that I must have a stop cock in the house. An immediate neighbour had had a visit from a different engineer and he accepted after looking around that she doesn't have one and she was deemed to be un-meter-able. I, on the other hand, was near enough left feeling that I had to have one fitted. When I phoned Thames Water to see what the engineer's report said I was told that it said that the householder (me) should find the internal stopcock and to make a new appointment. This, after me having told him umpteen times that nobody has ever located a stopcock in my house and after 40 years and much plumbing work that I should know. The engineer sort of threw things around in my under stairs cupboard, pulled out my dishwasher etc etc. I'm a mixture of upset and annoyed about it. The long and short of it is that I don't see that Thames Water can insist one has an internal stop cock - in fact the engineer couldn't determine where the water would first flow in the house, if that makes any sense. I have another appointment lined up for some time in February and will be glad if the engineer just deems me as un-meter-able when, apparently, you are charged on the basis of no. of bedrooms etc. |
