What we cannot do regardless of personal opinions about parenting or lack of etc. is sit around while it is apparent that many families are struggling. Apart from all the years of austerity, the massive cuts to so many services that have impacted on family life, and now the biggest threat of all - Covid, we have to understand that trying to feed a family under normal circumstances these days - even if parents are in work, is no mean undertaking. Think zero hours contracts for example, many families are 'working poor' - add the pressure of lockdown and only getting a percentage of your wages, or even being laid off and having to claim UC- a nightmare in itself - and it isn't hard to see why so many are struggling.
I'm sorry but we have a government of very wealthy people who haven't a clue and care even less, people who have claimed exes for heating for stables and duck houses but will not think about stepping in at this most awful of times to ensure people have enough to eat. No-one could foresee what we are up against now, but we should not begrudge any help going to those less fortunate than many of us are. |
