I'm glad Hounslow acted. But the deep sacrifices that parents made just 40-50 years ago is not the sort of thing that is common anymore. A really close look needs to be taken as to why this is happening and just how wide scale it really is. I hope they monitor the uptake properly and check that those meals are fully eaten and enjoyed by the kids. Enjoying a meal is just as important. No good if it's under duress. Parental responsibility or adult responsibility is first and foremost. There are those caught in a spiral trap. And the gap of incomes for what people actually do is way too wide. Then there are those who work really long hours for very little and those who work really long hours for far too much. Two ends of the income scale, but offspring of both often lose out. Neglect in differing ways, but neglect all the same. |
