Yesterday I watched the recycling truck negotiate the concrete anti tank installations at Whitestile / Enfield Road. Truck heading eastwards on Whitestile, turns right into Enfield, reverses across pavement into Junction Road and left into east section of Whitestile. Easy peasy! The pavement gap is wide and only covered by a couple of plastic barriers which are swiftly removed by motorists. I understand a bollard is to be put here (I assume removable) so the recycling and rubbish truck crews will have considerable faff to get through. Unless it is proposed that the trucks take a detour up Junction and along Darwin. And on the subject of reducing traffic, residents (and service vehicles as above) are having to take detours adding time and miles to journeys. Was this modeled by the "planners"? And don't get me started on the aesthetics of the hideous concrete blocks. They may have a place in some of the more war torn parts of the world as road blocks, but this another assault on the senses we could do without. It feels as if one of the increasing list of symptoms of Covid is mass incompetence at all levels of government. |
