I have just written to Sarah as follows: On the noise on Friday: I never had the impression it was going to be acoustic, just that it would attract a slightly different crowd. The licence for Friday I understand has the same sound limits as last year (and Saturday). I don't know what it was like for you but when I visited BMR last year it did not seem excessively noisy to me - in fact it was quiet on BMR, though it was heard in Isleworth. Re the meadow, I have been informed as follows: "we consulted with an ecologist as part of the HLF bid and the ecologist suggested to keep the meadow where it is and look at the way it is managed instead, with additional cuts as a way to support biodiversity. Apparently, additional cuts to accommodate J2 would not deter biodiversity but could stimulate further flowering later in the season." Officers have promised to share a copy of the ecologist's report with me. I haven't really engaged with the footprint of the festival nor the length of time the park is affected. I'm visiting the site with organisers next week so I'll try and understand that. These events are (obviously) unpopular with residents but they do provide a good slug of money which the council desperately needs to try and keep services (including parks) going. Plus they are popular with concert goers and I'm hoping the free Sunday event will be popular with locals. |
