You used to be able to recycle plastic plant pots at Syon Park. Anybody know if you can still? Recycling performance still seems to be measured in weight which may not be the best way since the weight must have reduced - some recyclate may be more valuable, some much easier to recycle, some more important to keep out of landfill etc. What about the packaging tax paid by the producers of packaging which is supposed to go towards funding improved recycling services, and the fees that are paid in lieu of using recyclable packaging - which we are told isn't effective in the UK? What is happening about companies who take the proverbial by completely overpackaging? We seem to now be swimming in plastic - unrecyclable packaging is increasing. If only about half of all bottles are recycled now with an easy kerbside collection it needs change. There are already some machines that take back plastic bottles... Those are the easiest to recycle and that feedstock is needed to go back into the system and if it is given a value as it is in other countries then there is a better chance that it will. |
