I go to Finland quite often and they have a plastic bottle deposit scheme there. There are automated machines in supermarkets and many corner shops where you put the bottles in and the machine scans and counts them (a bit like the recycling machines that until a couple of years ago were in Tesco car parks). When you finish it gives back 20 cents for each bottle. It seems to work very well as there are lots of places to claim back the deposit (shops apparently like it as having the machine brings customers in) and if anyone does drop litter somebody else will pick up their bottle to claim the deposit. |
