To be fair, they have been stopped from doing anything to Trimmer Hall for several months since Hazel and others raised the alarm and we got planning enforcement on the case. For whatever reason (and I'm not trying to defend the developers) it seems that the structure of the building is unstable and the plan is to take down the roof and two of the walls, underpin and rebuild using the same materials as far as possible. This document from the planning application http://planning2.hounslow.gov.uk/NPSPublicDocs/00534512.pdf gives the detail and is a fascinating document in itself. We have been working hard to try and defend some of these heritage assets: the other one recently under threat was the terrace between Kew Bridge station and the Express Tavern. This is (I think) locally listed but as part of a redevelopment behind the facade, the facade became unstable. We were very worried that what was rebuilt would be a pastiche but better judges than me (Brentford Heritage twitter account) have said 'nice job' and I agree. This may be because locals were vigilant and we got the enforcement team on the developers' backs. |
