I think we all accept to some extent any residential road can be used as a "rat-run" and although I no longer have to travel by car at rush hour through Isleworth I'm not averse to rat-running. But once Church Street was closed it was inevitably going to put more pressure on Twickenham Road to increase rat-running elsewhere, rather than leaving Twickenham Road and was and simply letting any limited rat-running being spaced evenly through the residential streets. Pretty difficult in anything other than a very small car to do a U-turn without having to partially reverse to complete the manoeuvre. Nothing wrong with that as such, but is abit annoying for all concerned (you for being stuck in stationary traffic, oncoming traffic for having to slow down/stop for you, and residents for the increased rat-running). When I did used to commute from Brentford to SW London, before the closure of Church Street if I was in the car I'd rarely if ever come home via Isleworth, Google Maps always said it was quicker to go via Kew Road over Kew Bridge. |
