Up until now I would have agreed with you Ian. But since the barmy decision on Church St. and the Cole Park closure, just the next turning down from there, which have both contributed to the horrendous traffic on Twickenham Rd. at times, now it's possibly not a good idea. This current lay-out gives the long suffering residents of Worple Avenue/Rd. some protection from the extra traffic movements that those closures have caused. As it is a lot of drivers on Twickenham Rd turn into Worple by the allotments and also ignore the no entry the other side of the green either to turn around back on to the Twickenham Rd. or miss it altogether by driving down to South St. Some have even found that it is possible to turn off Worple Rd. halfway down and get down to St. Margarets Rd. and then on to the A316. The volumes of traffic both ways on Worple Rd. and Avenue are increased a lot since those two closures, but the bods on Church St. are O.K. so that's alright then. I fear if traffic could access both sides of the green it would simply make a bad situation even worse. |
