It is often possible to make a U-turn there without causing any delay to traffic in either direction. I sometimes do it when there is a long and slow queue northbound and very little traffic southbound. One can usually find a gap such that the southbound traffic even doesn’t have to slow down to let the turning vehicle complete the maneuver. As for the Church Street closure and the ‘rat runs’ – to me it is obvious that all it achieved is peace and quiet for the residents of Church Street at the expense of other road users. And closure of one road increases the load on other roads including the ‘rat runs’. By the way I’m surprised that some people oppose closure of the Church Street ‘rat run’, but want to stop people using other roads as ‘rat runs’. |
