| If we remember this is all about 'people' and somehow, if there is a a need to keep these houses empty - the additional costs of boarding them up and maintaining them in that state is a cruel way of using public money when there are so many people in emergency housing, particularly single people. Amongst those people, are there not some who could be Property Guardians, living in properties and safeguarding them whilst at the same time being able to stretch their legs in a larger size house than their B&B might allow? You might even ask them to tend the garden whilst they are there! I am a great believer in tied accommodation as it suits a need and we get the property back for a continuing need once somebody finishes the job. When Marlborough was being rebuilt it would have been easy to fit in a small block of maisonettes specifically for Education staff/teachers who could keep an eye on the school grounds by nature of being there and their work. Well, I thought so anyway. |
