| I hope it's not simply that the owners are trying to prove it is "not viable" as a pub or restaurant, so they can apply for planing permission to sell the site at a big premium for housing. That certainly seems to have been the fate of some other pubs in the area, deliberately driven into the ground so they could be closed and sold off. |
