Memorial Rededication Service - 19 September Residents in Brentford are invited to attend the rededication of Brentford’s First World War memorial stone on Saturday 19 September at 9.30am. The London Borough of Hounslow has been working closely with the local people of Brentford to achieve the relocation of the memorial stone, which was originally erected at St Lawrence’s church (now closed), and has now been carefully re-laid outside its new home at Brentford library, alongside other memorial stones. The rededication memorial service will be led by Reverend Derek Simpson and include a parade by the 2nd Battalion Regiment Royal Fusiliers, standard bearers from the Royal British Legion and 203 Army Brentford Cadets. They will be joined on their march by the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Paul Lynch, and the Mayoress, the Mayor’s Mace Bearer, the Deputy Mayor and her consort. The parade and service will also be supported with music by the Band of 86 (Heston & Isleworth) Squadron ATC, and a Bugler from the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall will sound the Last Post. The event is supported by the Brentford British Legion who received funding from the War Memorials Trust. The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Paul Lynch, said: “This memorial means an awful lot to many residents of Brentford, and I look forward to seeing everyone who can make it on the day to remember those who made the greatest sacrifice for us.” "Members of the public are advised to be in position early as this ceremony promises to be a memorable occasion, the likes of which Brentford residents have not seen for many years. So please come along, watch the parade and attend the outdoor service, all are welcome. It is sponsored by (but not part of) the Army, with a unique mix of adventurous, community, and military activities. We welcome young people between the ages of 12 and 18, both boys and girls, whatever their background, religion, or culture. We are also keen to hear from adults who feel that they could contribute to our vital work of developing young people. Our aim is to inspire young people to achieve success in life, with a spirit of service to their local community, the Queen, and their country, all the while developing the qualities required of a good citizen in an inclusive, multicultural society. We try to retain the best of "traditional values", such as self-discipline and self-reliance, while at the same time embracing the best aspects of modern society. The ACF has 44,000 cadets and 8000 adult instructors in over 1700 Cadet Centres spread across the UK. Why not visit your local detachment to find out more. At Brentford, we are essentially a "grass roots" organisation, with strong links to the local community, through such organisations as the British Legion and the Hanwell Carnival Committee. Although, for historical reasons, we are known as "Brentford" Cadets, we are, in fact, based in W5, and recruit from all over the Ealing area. For further information please visit our unit website at www.203brentfordacf.co.uk or the national ACF website www.armycadets.com The Royal British Legion safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. We are one of the UK's largest membership organisations and recognised as custodians of Remembrance. We also run the annual Poppy Appeal. We help serving and ex-Service personnel and their families. Not just those who fought in the two World Wars, but also those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting today. We provide welfare services, campaign on a range of issues affecting Service people, are custodians of Remembrance, raise funds through the annual Poppy Appeal and we are a membership organisation.
