| That’s a strange argument. Do you really think organised crime will disappear if drugs are legalised? There’s plenty of organised crime involved with alcohol and tobacco rackets, and now with vapes. If you have ever known anyone with an addiction problem you will know that it’s not something that can be easily controlled. I’ve known well educated, intelligent people who have become hollowed out as a result of drug addiction. I’ve known 60 year old successful professionals who have succumbed to crack cocaine habits and lost their businesses and homes. If you think that legalising it will make people behave differently then you are probably mistaken. Opiates like heroin are illegal but there are legally available alternatives that are used to treat addicts. It doesn’t cure them. An addictive personality is difficult to change. I suppose the question is whether you’d be happy to see a friend or relative of yours using, illegally or not? |
