No argument with better quality and more affordable food but the horse has long since disappeared from the stable in that respect for a large proportion of the population, whether for economic reasons or simple habit. I’ve long advocated that cookery and associated home economics should be a compulsory subject in all schools. It’s far more important than history or certain aspects of maths. We’ve created generations of children who prefer the convenience of processed foods and compound that by making it easily accessible without having to venture out of one’s bedroom. The bullshit about active travel leading to healthier residents is just that, bullshit. A bit of cycling won’t burn off the excess calories and saturated fats in a pizza or double cheeseburger, despite what some claim. The gentrification of Brentford continues apace but people are voting with their wallets about whether they want, which seems to be cheap (ish) and convenient rather than costly and high quality. Just look at how Gregg’s is flourishing locally and nationally. |
