Joan, certainly since I've been a councillor there has been no increase of costs in Boston manor. Indeed I remember Steve Curran looking to pay a grant to bring Brentford Festival home but I was told this was rejected. I believe the people who run 'Brentford Festival' believe it is easier to do it in Blondin, which is huge, flat, easily accessed from a lot of different angles and in an area which is more I think in the territory of the people who run it. Lots of people locally are resentful of 'Brentford' festival taking place outside Brentford, but organising these things take a lot of work and I haven't heard anybody trying practically to 'bring it home'. Actually I have never had a direct discussion and I would like to do so and get an opinion from the horse's mouth! As far as I'm concerned, and the Park team, we were very disappointed because the Friends Team found themselves unable to take on the cafe. The individual they had identified to run the cafe, and on the basis of which the arrangements were more or less completed, had a change in circumstances and had to withdraw. If anybody has any interest in running a cafe in BMP talk to me. The new cafe in the hub building will be open throughout the week (we hope) not just weekends and school hols and the building will (if I recall correctly) will also include a work place for Vanessa, the park manager and some training rooms: thanks to the Lottery for paying for all this. |
