It's a classic case of putting policy before pragmatism. You only have to look at the dismissive comments of the A4 Cycle route. Links many of the districts of the borough and the airport, Has a full width cycle lane both sides of the road is segregated from vehicular traffic. And Exists. Yet it has had nothing more than neglect. Minimal enhancements and righting some of the wrongs made in more recent times would make this the practical and best choice by far. The London Road is reasonable as it is and does not need stupid and dangerous enhancements, just some surface improvements and better markings. But to stuff up public transport and commercial traffic to serve an ideology and only pay attention to cycling groups who are no more representative of all cyclists than any one political party is pure folly and indicative of why we have such poor end results. |
